We currently have an open position in the division of GASTROENTEROLOGY AND  HEPATOLOGY for a full time PHYSICIAN (M/F) (ref 204096)

The division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology was founded in 2015 as a merger between the division of hepatology and gastroenterology. Seventeen full time medical staff and more than 20 part-time GI specialists are part of the division.  Our division is a leading referral center for Flanders (6 million inhabitants) and numerous staff are recognized as world experts in their discipline for clinical and translational research. We are spearheading, amongst others: digestive oncology, luminal and hepato-bilio-pancreatic endoscopy, liver transplantation, metabolic disorders, neurogastroenterology en inflammatory bowel diseases. We have an intense multidisciplinary collaboration with hepatobiliary and colorectal surgery, transplant surgery, abdominal imaging, pathology and radiotherapy.

 

Competency profile :

  • An experienced Hepato-Gastroenterologist with a broad interest in Hepatology and experience in hepato-biliary endoscopy.
  • At our Academic Center we expect medical staff to deliver excellent care but also to be interested in teaching and research. The division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology harbors many world renown key opinion leaders, clinician-scientists. The head of the department of experimental medicine is part of our division. We collaborate intensively with the Leuven Cancer Institute (LKI), the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) and numerous partners in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. We have a prominent teaching presence in the faculty of medicine both at the undergraduate and graduate level. The vice dean of internationalization is a staff member of our division.
  • You are motivated to work in a strong team of physicians, nurses and researchers and accept the challenge of bringing innovative and top-quality hepatological care to our patients.
  • You are a natural networker and ready to build excellent relations with referring physicians.

 

Requirements :

  • You have a diploma of medicine and are board certified as Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist in Belgium or a member state of the European Union.
  • You can provide evidence of relevant clinical expertise in hepatology and hepato-biliary endoscopy.
  • You can provide proof of relevant teaching and research experience.
  • Candidates who are not native Dutch speakers are able to speak Dutch or willing to learn it in the short term. You have a good knowledge of English.
  • Having or working towards a PhD is needed to obtain also an academic position that complements the clinical position.
  • You work as a strong team player, in a positive spirit of interdisciplinary cooperation, building constructive relationships and with strong communication skills in the areas of consultation and information

Situering :

Topreferent zijn in patiëntenzorg, opleiding en onderzoek, dat zijn de drie hoofdopdrachten van

UZ Leuven. In België en Europa spelen we een toonaangevende rol die we willen behouden en verder uitbouwen. Daartoe bundelen meer dan 9 000 gedreven medewerkers elke dag hun expertise.

UZ Leuven behaalde als eerste Belgische ziekenhuis het internationale JCI-label voor veilige en kwaliteitsvolle zorg.

 

De dienst Maag-, Darm- en Leverziekten (MDL) ontstond in 2015 uit een samensmelting tussen de dienst hepatologie en gastro-enterologie. De dienst telt 17 voltijdse medische stafleden en meer dan twintig deeltijdse stafleden-consulenten. De dienst heeft een leidende positie als referentiecentrum in Vlaanderen en verschillende stafleden behoren tot de wereldtop in hun vakgebied wat betreft klinisch en translationeel onderzoek. Speerpunten zijn o.a. : digestieve oncologie, luminele en hepato-bilio-pancreatische endoscopie, levertransplantatie, metabole aandoeningen, neurogastro-enterologie en inflammatoire darmziekten.  Er is een intense multidisciplinaire samenwerking met hepatobiliaire en colorectale heelkunde, transplantatieheelkunde, abdominale beeldvorming, pathologie en radiotherapie.

 

Wat je functie inhoudt :

  • Een ervaren MDL arts met een brede interesse in de Hepatologie en ervaring in de hepato-biliaire endoscopie.
  • Naast een klinische taak is er binnen een universitaire opdracht ook een belangrijk aandachtspunt voor opleiding, onderwijs en wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De dienst MDL telt een groot aantal stafleden met een deeltijds onderzoeksprofiel die tot de wereldtop behoren en het departement klinische en experimentele geneeskunde wordt geleid door een van onze stafleden. Wij werken intens samen met het Leuvens Kanker Insitituut (LKI), het Vlaamse Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB) en talrijke industriële partners. Op gebied van onderwijs zijn wij prominent aanwezig binnen de KULeuven.
  • U bent gemotiveerd om te werken in een sterk team van artsen en verpleegkundigen en aanvaardt de uitdaging om innovatieve en hoogkwalitatieve hepatologische zorg te bieden aan onze patiënten.
  • U bent een goede netwerker en bereid om optimale relaties te onderhouden met verwijzende artsen.

 

Wat wij vragen :

  • U behaalde een in België of in de Europese Unie erkend diploma als arts en specialist in de Gastro-enterologie/Hepatologie.
  • U heeft relevante klinische expertise in de hepatologie en hepatobiliaire endoscopie.
  • U kan relevante onderwijs- en research ervaring voorleggen.
  • U beschikt over goede communicatieve vaardigheden in het Nederlands of u bent bereid deze aan te leren.
  • Een PhD-thesis wordt aangemoedigd en is noodzakelijk voor het behalen van een academische positie toegevoegd aan de klinische positie.
  • In een positieve geest van interdisciplinaire samenwerking om kwaliteitsvol en vernieuwend te werken, bouwt u eveneens constructieve relaties uit intern, nationaal en internationaal, en toont u sterke communicatieve vaardigheden op vlak van overleg, informatie-doorstroming en conflicthantering.
